Hard to swallow pills: the jedi need their new padawans to be very young/Anakin is deemed “too old” for jedi training because the younger they are/the earlier they are taken from their families, the easier it is to brainwash them and have them never question their orders.
Point in case, Ahsoka and Anakin didn’t “not care at all for clone lives”, they simply were raised by adults that taught them that fighting and dying was all they were made for. Anyone forced into a religion full of absolute truths know how insidious these teachings can be.
I’m not saying all jedi raised in the order was innocent. They’re complicit in the clones’ enslavement, and they should think for themselves. Still, their brainwashing should be accounted for.
Can we
stop pretending that Anakin and Ahsoka aren’t’ responsible for their actions
though. I understand and acknowledge that the Order had a part in formulating
their personalities, but let’s not pretend that they aren’t agents of their own
minds and choices and are old enough to realize that how they treat the clones
isn’t right. It comes off as not caring.
I grew up
in the Catholic church and was taught many, many dogmas that were offensive and hateful to people, but I grew out of those
as I got older and experienced the world outside of the church.
Ahsoka and
Anakin are capable of acknowledging slavery and injustice when it comes to others.
Why are fans so adamant about giving them the slap on the wrist when It comes
to the clones, which happen to be a slave army of color.
Anakin and
Ahsoka have done many many things that suggest they don’t care
about the clones, @diversity-instarwars has great metas about this.
My favorite character is Obi-Wan (or one of them), but I have absolutely no issue acknowledging that in canon he comes off as not caring for his men at times. Jedi or not, they are responsible and logical enough to know how they treat their men isn’t right, especially when they acknowledge it towards others.
Anakin was a slave himself and unless the Order went in and erased those memories from his mind, he still has them. He still knows what it’s like to be a slave and yet his attitude towards the clones is more often indifferent than caring. If a plotline calls for him to care, he does, but otherwise they’re mostly fodder. And often even when Anakin and Ahsoka are shown to care about one or a handful of clones the focus is usually more on themselves than the men. Ahsoka does something stupid and gets men killed and it’s a shot to her confidence. It’s about her needing to regain trust in herself, not her grieving the loss of good men or questioning a system that would leave a fourteen year old wet-behind-the-montrals Padawan with the lives of seasoned soldiers. She doesn’t talk to the surviving brothers/batchmates. She doesn’t eulogize them.
Sure you can blame shoddy and inconsistent writing, but that’s an outside factor. Within the canon universe itself Ahsoka and Anakin (and Obi-Wan and Plo and others) aren’t always as caring about the lives they throw away. And Jedi “brainwashing” might factor into it, but as myinkandtrees says, they’re still thinking people who are capable of evaluating things and making decisions for themselves. The Jedi are not that cultlike, especially not when they’re out in the universe encountering other ways of thinking. They don’t get a “Get out of responsibility free!” card just because they’re Jedi.
I love these characters as much as the next nerd, but I’m also able to recognize some of their faults and call out some of their bad behavior. Just because they aren’t perfect doesn’t mean they’re bad people, it just means there are areas that need improvement.
They’re complicit. In the clones’ enslavement. And they should think. For themselves.
Saying that their brainwashing should be acknowledged does not mean “pretending that Anakin and Ahsoka aren’t responsible for their actions”. I literally just said that they’re complicit and should think for themselves! They didn’t! They were wrong for not thinking for themselves!
But they were thoroughly taught not to think for themselves as well.
Truth is, they don’t give a shit about that, they just want to appease Apple so they’ll be in the app store again, and Apple is going full-in on the cultural no-sex campaign.

Minors being exposed to pornographic material on this website is pretty horrid but tumblr could’ve either been explicitly a no-pornography zone from the start OR, in the current version of reality, it can implement a legitimate filtering system ADMINISTERED BY HUMANS RATHER THAN RUNNING A SINGLE POORLY CODED BOT WRITTEN IN PHP, the current solution directly affects the survival income of a very large amount of people and is the laziest and cheapest one they could implement.
Silicon Valley style “all our moderation is done by bots who occasionally get updated by one person” moderation is a fucking blight upon the internet and is not going to become any better or going to stop giving random false positives and fucking over people who haven’t done anything harmful because its a fundamentally capitalist solution based on minimizing the costs of operating a massive social media platform. This entire mess could’ve been averted if this website wasn’t operated on the basis of “spend as little money as possible on keeping it clean”, except now they’re swerving from “don’t do anything” to “just have our bots delete immense amounts of the website basically arbitrarily, while we continue to not actually do anything”.
Meanwhile, all the nazis and terfs are still here, spewing their hate everywhere but female presenting nipples are such a much more pressing matter for the staff
