They’re trying to erase the existence of the rape victims of Japanese soldiers in World War II because they think the reminder of their crimes might make Japan a little bit cross
Duterte, the absolute coward, is more worried about women criticizing him than actually honoring the women this country needs to remember
me: *gets comfortable enough around a person to be Loud* the person: you are being annoying and obnoxious me, throwing my whole personality in the garbage: oh no
i hate that i’m so absent as a person. i don’t start conversations. i can barely maintain them. i’m so weary and spaced out all the time to the point where i can’t even keep up small talk and i’m just so disappointed in myself
This is almost fifty years ago: I added psych as a major so I could access the books on homosexuality in our university library. They were locked in the back and you had to go through the librarian to get them. If you were not a psych major the Dean of Students would interrogate you as to why you wanted to read such deleterious material.
Seeing the newspaper that one of my professors and his friends had been arrested at his own house, having a barbecue in the backyard, for “associating with a known homosexual”. Believe me, these things twist you, and make you think twice when invited to a party at someone’s house.
Having a handsome young stranger make eyes at you at the all night diner as you study for finals, and wondering if he is one of the detectives assigned to entrapping gays. Going through the teeter totter emotions of wondering if he might be the love you are looking for, or is he the trap that will flush your whole life down the toilet.
Coming to barracks at the end of the day in the Air Force, and watching the swarm of OSI and Security Police escorting a friend out under arrest for having gone to a gay bar. Wondering if he would name you, because that was the only way you could stay out of jail – by naming at least five other gays.
All of the above were common experiences for many gays in America, not that long ago. Those of us who went through this are still among you. Don’t take for granted the new freedoms you have. Get out and vote this election no matter what. The Republicans mean to send us back to all this.]
favorite story: apparently, while filming “black swan,” the director would try to pit mila kunis and natalie portman against each other, telling them that the other woman was doing a better job, in hopes of making their characters’ rivalry seem more authentic. but it completely backfired, since instead of getting angry or competitive, natalie and mila would just congratulate each other on doing such good work.
Directors who do stuff like this are pieces of shit
What men think women are like verses what women are actually like
also this:
Let’s name the director:
Darren Aronofsky. He has since directed mother! where he forced Jennifer Lawrence to reshoot a scene after she broke a rib or something. He is still really praised in cinephile circles, which is why I want to name and shame him.
And let us all admit that directors like Darren Aronofsky are not being praised DESPITE this behaviour but rather BECAUSE of it. They’re seen as edgy and willing to take risks and do what needs to be done, no matter the fallout, to get the perfect shot. They take risks for their art.
Except, of course, they don’t. They make other take risks, they push and damage other people, not themselves.
Darren Aronofsky banned bottled water on the set of “Noah”, and after a long day of filming, Emma Watson came back to her trailer so exhausted and dehydrated that she unthinkingly drank a glass of water that had been left sitting out for weeks, maybe months. The water had gotten filthy by that point, and it made her horrifically ill. When she told Aronofsky that she was sick, he refused to let her take a break from filming. He told her to “use it”.
Aronofsky’s a manipulative, abusive POS.

Let’s pls end the idea that directors like this mistreating their actors are “Artists” who are “Doing it to get a better performance out of them”
No they’re just pretentious douchebags and if the only way they can make a good film is to mistreat their actors then they probably should quit and go find a different job because they are clearly shit at directing
I work in film and tv in ny and the best actor performances are the ones that are made through love and respect of the craft and the individuals involved. People work better when trusted and cared for vs yelled at, starved, alienated or mistreated.
i haven’t seen any noise about this on tumblr yet, but a fire has completely wiped out a small town in california.
they’re calling it the camp fire. over 20,000 residents have been evacuated so far, the last area estimates i heard were over an hour ago at 18,000 acres and its still zero percent contained.
this is the smoke from about 18 miles away from the fire three hours ago. if you know anyone near chico, paradise, oroville or durham california you might want to check they’re okay
UPDATE: 4PM FRI NOV. 9, 2018
the fire has completely walked over paradise, magalia, and much of the rest of butte county. it’s under 10% containment and moving towards chico, which was been mostly evacuated as well. it’s been documented as one of the top 20 deadliest fires seen in california. i know many of the people personally whose lives have been destroyed by this fire. my aunt and uncle’s home, of whom we’re very close to, was demolished last night, same goes for family friends and others who lived in paradise– which is completely gone. there are 5 confirmed deaths, several dozen missing people.
EVACUATION SITES STILL OPEN AS OF 1 HOUR AGO:
Butte County Fairgrounds (199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA 95948)
Yuba-Sutter Fairground (442 Franklin Ave, Yuba City, CA 95991)
Glenn County Fairgrounds (221 E Yolo St, Orland, CA 95963)
Chester Memorial Hall (22 Gay Street, Chester)
HOW TO HELP/DONATE:
“Currently the best way to contribute is to make a monetary donation via the North Valley Community Foundation website.” -abc7news.com
“Supplies: Hope Center in Oroville (1950 Kitrick Ave Ste. A) is taking donations. Hours: Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Needs: warm clothes, shoes, socks, coats (primarily for elderly residents).” -abc7news.com
the majority of those affected by the fire in paradise were elderly people. and having known paradise and magalia myself for years, it’s not a wealthy part of california. these people will need help, and lots of it.
if you have any questions, you can message me personally or seek information online or from the above references personally.
if you cannot help yourself, please spread the word and reblog. so many wonderful people are going through a terrible thing and need your help.
