Please don’t fucking log off tumblr on the 17th as a protest. All that’s going to do is give tumblr more reason to shut this place down because of revenue loss.

Please don’t fucking log off tumblr on the 17th as a protest. All that’s going to do is give tumblr more reason to shut this place down because of revenue loss.

This is blatantly untrue

Companies do not experience one day of revenue loss and pull the plug, destroying years of work and firing dozens if not hundreds of employees.

Companies which experience loss in revenue and consumer interest make investments and changes in order to regain their users/customers. That’s why organized protests and boycotts WORK. Tumblr will NOT go down after one bad day or week, but they might be willing to listen to its userbase if we put up an organized protest. (If you don’t believe me, think about how long sites like MySpace and Google+ hang around with fractions of their previous user base, often for years.)

Yahoo paid over one billion dollars for Tumblr, and the website will not go offline because of a one-day event, so in conclusion,

DO log off on December 17th to show Tumblr that you disapprove of its recent content ban and clumsy execution of censorship.

Please reblog this version of the post to stop the spread of misinformation.

I didn’t know how this kind of stuff works so I apologize for spreading misinformation.

@charmingsides You were right!

Good morning! I’m salty.

I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.

This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.

You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.

“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.

If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

This needs to be reblogged today.

please for the love of god learn to have nuanced stances on things based on empathy and compassion

fun fact but you CAN be against horny freaks sexualizing children AND simultaneously have empathy for sex workers and adult content creators who Don’t Do That and are just trying to make a living, while also not treating them as expendable little footnotes in the process of taking a hammer to aforementioned horny freaks

and also potentially consider that staff literally does not give a fuck about either of these things and is just shamelessly writhing against having been removed from some app store or what the fuck ever

Please spread the word that enrollment for health care ends Dec 15. #obamacare

Important to followers that need to get or keep insurance and didn’t realize the deadline was coming up.

For people in the United States!! Healthcare enrollment deadline is approaching. Much less advertisement and information about it this year, so please try and spread the word for those who may need it!

When Tumblr bans porn, who loses?

A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain
anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in
the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it
was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September,
shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an
all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the
former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child
pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem
was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.

Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to
make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the
platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just
before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure
out how to better monetize.

On that note-

Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose
Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should
focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge,
“Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to
[make] a ton of money.”

Capitalism is disgusting and ruins everything.

LETS LEAVE

I hope Verizon loses more than double what they bought Tumblr for, the dumbasses deserve it

THEY HAVE BEEN PLANNING THIS FOR MONTHS. THATS WHY THEY STOPPED DOING WHAT LITTLE THEY WERE DOING ABOUT ALL THE SPAM BOTS.

DELETE YOUR BLOG ON DEC.17 it really is time for us to move on. Tumblr has never worked either their users only against (especially the artist).

They stopped everything so it could build and then blame it on everyone else. Its time to leave tumblr and go elsewhere.

If your going to pillow fort please remember that they are still in beta and are doing their absolute best to keep up with al the new traffic. Please be patient with them they are actually trying.

This is infuriating. I will backup my blog to wordpress or dreamwidth so that my content will be safe and I will take part on the protest of logging off and not using tumblr during the 17th.

If things still don’t change by the end of December, I’m deleting as well.
